haircuts

Yesterday was the big day... the boys were getting haircuts(John included).
Mickey was fine- Jeffrey seemed to have accepted the inevitable.   I didn't expect any tears.


Mickey went first.  John did a little bit so I could take a picture.

Back to the basic buzz cut!

Next came Jeffrey.  He was in a good mood, fooling around...

 

we experimented with a mullet for fun,

and then a long mohawk.  He started to get upset because I wouldn't leave it like this.

Then I tried to keep it a bit longer on top to appease him but I didn't do a very good job(of either).

 

So it all ended in tears and then I ended up just buzzin it all.  He got out of there before I could take a final picture though.  It's the same but shorter.  I should learn some other hair styles I know but this is just too easy!  And since they hate getting haircuts these way means longer times between the cuts.
He was fine by the time his shower was over so all is well.  His head just looks so small now!!

Dissecting an Owl Pellet

This is from last spring but I forgot to press publish and it has been sitting in the draft section for a year!!  It is pretty cool so I will publish it today so everyone can see it and then move it to the correct date later....

Mickey had been BEGGING me to find him an owl pellet to dissect for a long time so after a bunch of looking around I decided to order one from Amazon.
What is an owl pellet you ask?

Mick had a great time finding all the little bones but he didn't want his brother and sister to miss out on all the fun so he saved some for them to dissect when they got home from school.

 

They also loved it.

 

 

This is the kit we ordered.
You can order just a pellet alone too I believe.  The only thing you have to pay attention to is if it is a real pellet or if it is a pretend on(with plastic bones)- I don't think that would be as fun!

Mickey's Lego Monster Fighter Birthday Party (eleven}

This party was back on Sept. 27th and I just realized I forgot to post it! Yikes!
I have been catching up on a lot of posts so keep going back in time- there are tons of new ones...

Mickey wanted a Lego Monster Fighter themed birthday party this year because it was his newest Lego obsession.  He saved up all of his birthday money to by the giant haunted house.  We waited until late Sept. to have his friend pool party and it worked out perfectly because all of the Halloween stuff was out at Target.  Great for a MONSTER theme!

We used his new haunted house as the centerpiece, some black candelabras, black spiders, and balloons for the table decorations.  The party was at the Casselton Governor's Inn Water Park.  When he requested the location he thought he was asking for a party at the water park in Wausau where my parents live.  He was devastated to find out that I scheduled it in Casselton(which is already 25 minutes away!) and could not understand why it would be a problem for everyone to drive 7 hours there and back to go the the water park he really wanted! It was quite a miscommunication! Oh Micks Micks...

 

 

I think this is my favorite Lego set we have.  There are so many great details-
and I love haunted houses!

 

 

Target had the cutest little cans of pop- they had monsters on them!  Perfect!

 

 

 

I used mashed up chocolate creme-filled cookies on a chocolate cake, shoved in some gummy worms, spiders, and "tombstones", and placed some lego pieces around- it turned out pretty cool.

 

 

 

He got several more Monster Fighter sets and said it was the "best day ever"
(which he says a lot but it's always nice to hear!) :)

these are too complicated for me to explain but the important part is that Mary Beth did indeed catch a leprechaun this year but it ran out as soon as she lifted up her box and whizzed past her and out the front door.  we saw him across the street.  boy- they are fast!!

Our St. Patrick's Day {leprechaun antics, garland, & reubens}

I made french toast this morning(which we NEVER have & it's my fav) and while I was flipping them I thought... wait a minute!  It's St. Patrick's Day!  Oh well, no one cared we were starting it off with a french theme thank goodness.

And then this is what greeted us after church this morning:

 

 

 

The leprechaun sure had a good time making a huge mess in the bathroom!

I decided to whip up some garland quick since we don't really have any St. Patrick's Day decorations.
I just punched out circles out of cardstock and fed them through my sewing machine.
The whole project took about 10 minutes.

Then it was time to start constructing the leprechaun traps- this often goes on for hours.

 

For supper I made homemade reubens(my fav!), chips(a treat!), pickles, and root beer(get it, like dark beer?) :)  Oh and Mickey made an announcement that reubens are his new favorite sandwiches.
Oh yeah, and for dessert we had green cupcakes- I think I forgot to take a picture of those.
