bird watching

I'm so jealous of the birds my mom gets in her yard... we only have robins and chickadees. Boo

space rockets

The kids and their friends Norah and Emma have been working hard on homemade space rockets for days. They drug out our old moving boxes and built and decorated for hours. The little girls shared one of course because they always have to be as close together as possible. :) We took a break to paint the girls' toenails sparkly purple but then got right back to planning and playing. They continued the next day but built a giant one with tunnels and passageways. I love their imagination!

gardening and slip n' sliding

it was finally a nice day outside and so we pulled out the slip n' slide for the first time this year. sadly, we discovered there was a hole in the blow up part at the end- the kids were sad because we've had it since we moved to Bismarck 7 years ago. it's Backyardagins. oh well, they still managed to make it work and I guess 7 years from a $5 slip n' slide isn't bad- it's the sentiment that goes a long with it though...

chalk humor

The kids got a hilarious Klutz book from the book fair a while back. They immediately tried out a bunch of the ideas around our house. It's taken me this long to post them(I've been having TONS of trouble with blogger lately- that's the reason I'm so behind with about a million posts!)

those little rocks all have faces on them(scared faces)

get it? Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall...

Mickey turned this rock into a mouse- and that's the mouse hole.

This is by an ant hill. It was supposed to say rabid ants but it works this way also!

snake coming up between the sidewalks

here's the head:

I highly recommend this book- it's hilarious and full of cute ideas for summer chalk fun!

watching the Fargo Marathon

I stood there for EVER holding my camera ready to take a picture of Amber(she was running the 1/2 marathon) and cheer her on... and I MISSED her!!! She was in a huge group of people and must have blended in. :( We did see several other people we knew though and had a fun time watching the runners.

If I didn't have my trick knee I would consider running some time. ha!

Kindergarten Valentine sledding party

Some of the parents in Mary Beth's class organized a sledding party for the kids last night. It was FA-REEZING but they all had a fantastic time. Why don't kids ever notice that it's 40 below zero outside while they are playing??? I took pictures for what seemed like 3 hours but it was probably 20 minutes- which is very uncharacteristic of me. (not the taking pictures part obviously, the standing outside in winter for more than 2 seconds part) As soon as I lost all feeling in my legs and feet I ran for the warming house and didn't leave it for the rest of the evening. We all had supper there and Valentine treats- fun fun fun!
However, on the way to the van at the end of the night, Mickey cried and firmly stated(shouted) over and over: I AM NEVER GOING OUTSIDE AGAIN WHY DO WE LIVE HERE IT IS TOO COLD HERE IN THE WINTER I HATE WINTER I HATE JACK FROST WHY DOES HE ALWAYS HAVE TO BITE MY CHEEKS I'M SOOO COLD AAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!
I love it when he perfectly verbalizes exactly what I'm thinking...
