our homeschool room {part 2}

I'm back with the rest of the tour!
Here is the corner I shoved the dining room table into and now it is used as a work area.
I found this neat chalkboard at The Studio last fall and knew it would be perfect for this room- even before it turned into a school room!

Right now all of our space books are in the basket under it.

 

Each kid has their own locker basket where they keep their work and this awesome cart is from a craft show in Fargo a couple summers ago... I love it!
That map isn't crooked in real life- I just must have taken the picture that way(at an angle)!

The yellow bin holds all of our library books.

The 3-tiered metal thing holds letter-writing related books and supplies.  The bins hold math games, word games, and card games.

Well that's about it!

a great birthday present: a fort kit!

I've put this kit together for birthday presents a couple of times now. I think it's so great- I know I would have loved to get this when I was little... who wouldn't?? So when I saw it here, I knew I had to make some up.

This one was for Mary Beth's friend Will who had his birthday party tonight. She was so excited to help me get everything put together. I bought a bunch of plastic clips from IKEA and some inexpensive sheets when we were there a few times ago- keeping this project in mind. I have also used clean sheets from the thrift store washed on my sanitize/steam cycle.

I stamped/labelled some cardstock and then laminated them for the two kinds of clips and the suction cup tag. I just think it was cute that way!

And it gave Mary Beth more things to help with.

The awesome fort tag for the bag was printed from the blog post where I found the whole idea- I laminated that also. I don't know how to make my own yet but someday I hope to learn!

We also included some clothesline, a flashlight, and a doodling book for something cool to do in the fort! Another idea would be to include a cute small lantern instead of the flashlight. They have great ones at Eddie Bauer in different colors.

The party was tons of fun- it was at the YMCA. Lots of great exercise and playing with friends.

And it looked like Will liked his fort kit!

unicorn skirt & adirondack chairs

I got the cutest, softest chambray fabric recently and decided to use half of it to make Mary Beth a little skirt. She loves it because it's "softy" and has unicorns on it.

I love making these skirts because they are soooo easy. I just cut the fabric across, eyeballing the length(less than 1/2 yard for her because she's so little), hem one side and add elastic to the other- and tada! A skirt!
I also got some cute snail fabric from the same line and I'm working on a dress for her out of it. I'll share the finished product when I'm done.

Oh, and here's my chairs all finished... they were curb finds- a little repair work, primer, and 2 coats of paint completely transformed them. They were worn and weathered bare wood before.

I put them in the front yard- they look so cute there!

I have lots of pictures from our (Mickey) birthday weekend in Minneapolis/St. Paul to share and also from Mickey's birthday party yesterday... those will be coming in the next few days.
