New Pets!

Today the kids adopted 2 hamsters from Petco.  They are sisters and their names are: Hammie(shown above) and Izzy(the white one hiding in the purple house).  The price for adoption included the cage, 2 balls, bedding, food, and accessories- not bad!  The kids each kicked in an equal share of their own money and PROMISED they would take care of them all by themselves.
Hmmm.... we'll see!

Storybook Land- Aberdeen, SD

This was such a fun trip!  If you haven't been and you live near here you should definitely take your kids.  It was better than I had thought it would be- not huge but big enough and everyone really enjoyed it.  The weather was perfect too!
Little story:  towards the end when we were at the castle MB said she had to go potty so I took her and left John with the boys(who were running around).  Well, apparently Mickey saw me and MB walking off and followed us but was far enough behind that he didn't see us go into the bathroom in the main entrance building.  Then he decided he was lost so he went to the counter at the gift shop and told them that.  The ladies asked for our cell phone numbers so she could call us to tell us they had him there.  He wrote it down on a piece of paper.  They called John and all turned out ok but the funny part was this:  as we were leaving Mickey told me that he informed the ladies that he would be needing that piece of paper back after they made the call because it isn't safe to give out personal information.
They gave it back and he destroyed it.  :)

turtle rock

On the way to Aberdeen John pulled over on the highway so we could see the "turtle rock" near Milnor, ND.  He's been telling us about it for years- that there is this rock that a bunch of tiny turtles hang out on in the middle of a pond/lake/some body of water... we were excited to finally see it ourselves!  So I grabbed my camera and jumped out of the van to take pictures- but as soon as I slammed the door shut all the turtles jumped off the rock and dove into the water!!!  Luckily I decided to wait a couple minutes to see what would happen because in no time, one by one, they started climbing up on their rock again.
I took several pictures of this happening... just because I thought it was cool.

Mickey's 5th grade graduation ceremony

Yesterday Mickey was done with elementary school!  Where did the time go?  I was surprisingly unaffected by this event(no tears, not a basket case, ect.)- I think it's because I know he will be home next year, learning in just the way that makes sense to him, with me. :)  I'm excited for that and for summer fun... and so proud of all his hard work these past 6 years in school.  Onward to great years of learning to learn, creativity, and actually LOVING to learn again- which is VERY important... and so often left behind and lost after the early years of school.

We are excited for the future of this brilliant young man!

Mickey's Play

Mickey's class has been preparing for a weather play for some time now.  He had his heart SET on the part of the dog but unfortunately he didn't get it- he did get 3 other parts though and even had a solo singing part!  I think that was the first time I heard him sing alone like that and it was AMAZING!! I'm not even kidding... I don't know where he got that voice!  Not from his parents, that's for sure!  He did an excellent job at all his parts- and it was a really great play.  Jeffrey's teacher even let him leave class to come watch his brother- that meant a lot to Micks.  I can't believe school is over tomorrow!!

Jenny's Bridal Shower

Today was John's sister Jenny's bridal shower in Valley City.  There was a hat theme- hence all the hats! Mary Beth and I had a great time- I even won a prize in the Name That Tune game.  :)
Can't wait for the wedding!
