Mary Beth's Mo WIllems- Elephant & Piggie- Pigeon Birthday Party- part 1

This year Mary Beth really wanted a birthday party based on the books by her favorite author: Mo Willems.  She especially loves his Elephant and Piggie books(so most everything was based off those). And once again, my children love picking themes that are impossible to buy anything for! Ha!  Oh well, at least it forces me to use my imagination(and pinterest)- right?!?!?

Explanations.... the bananas were favors- based on the funny part of the book: We Are In a Book!  when Piggie yells "Banana!"- we attached a little tag to the bananas depicting that scene.

I used those cute ice cream cone bubbles from Target for one of the favors- connection to the book:  Should I Share My Ice Cream?

And of course the Pigeon had to be involved- along with his favorite foods: hot dogs and cookies.
The nest was symbolic of the book:  There is a Bird on Your Head!

Here's us working on the "pinata"... since we weren't sure for awhile what the weather would bring, we decided to try a different approach to a pinata.  We attached bowls to poster board and filled each bowl with little gifts and then covered them with tissue paper.

Here's how it turned out:

Each child had to answer a trivia question from one of the books in order to pick a bowl to punch.  Since their teacher had read all of them this year they all got their questions right!

It was a beautiful day out after all so we were able to have the party outside- which made this Mommy very happy. ;)  John set up the bouncy castle and badmitten in the front yard and the kids had a blast!

Her birthday cake:  pink cupcakes with sprinkles and pinwheels- naturally!
Raspberry(pink) lemonade with striped straws!

More pictures to come!
