a very bad thing

this is what is happening in our bedroom right now- and for the last 3 days. in case you aren't sure what you are looking at: there is a constant stream of water dripping from the top of the window frame. drip drip drip drip drip drip all day and all night(2 feet from my head). i got about 1 hour of sleep last night. and that was with a box fan turned to high right next to me. and cotton in my ears.
here is where the water falls to. the towel was in there initially to soften the ker-plunk of the drops but it's coming in so fast now that it doesn't matter anymore.
this is how John rigged up the water collection device- a pampered chef mixing bowl on a pampered chef cookie cooling rack resting precariously on an antique plant stand. this is obviously dangerous in the sense that it is the exact opposite of sturdy. I already tripped on it in the middle of the night last night and the bowl had A LOT of water in it. i caught the bowl.

are you wondering why all of this is happening? well, apparently there is so much snow and ice build up on the roof and gutter that when the ice next to the house melts it runs under the siding and down to the top of the window frame and then through a crack in the window frame. It was in one spot but now it is all along about half of the board.

today John filled pantyhose with ice melt(he googled something and this came up as a possible solution). then he got up on a super tall ladder(in the FREEZING cold- 0 degrees or worse)- for hours- melting a "channel" through the ice with a heat gun. I heard a lot of pounding too. then he positioned the pantyhose ice melt snakes here and there in an effort to force the melting ice to run a certain way(not toward our window). as of 9pm the window is still dripping and I'm looking for a different room to sleep in tonight.

i don't even want to think about what the wood that we can't see looks like with all that water saturating it... this is definitely a very bad thing. i'll keep you updated.
